Things to do in Punta Leona
If you plan on visiting Punta Leona and are wondering what there is to do here, let us give you some tips!
Punta Leona is located near 2 very nice beaches. Playa Mantas is 858 linear meters long and the most accessible. The water is calm on most days and the sand is dark. It faces more towards the west. Just to the south over the point is Playa Blanca. If you are a club member or are staying in one of our rentals, you will have easier access to this beach. Although you can access it by walking during low tide from Playa Mantas and climbing up over some rocks. Playa Blanca is a 603 linear meter white sand beach with clear blue water and also calm most days. During the arrival of high tide, you can surf on the southern side of the beach. You can park in the paid parking lot of Playa Mantas to access both beaches if you are not a member of the Punta Leona Club or are not staying in a rental.
There are also 4km of nature trails in Punta Leona’s 750-acre private wildlife refuge. The entrance is located about halfway down road from the main private entrance to Punta Leona. Punta Leona’s reserve is one of the last remaining forests that are found in the transitional life zone between the rainforests of the Southwest and the dry forests of the Northwest. The area has over 300 documented species of birds and you can also find Coati, Capuchin and Spider monkeys, iguanas, butterflies, raccoons, and much more!
Some of the available adventure tour activities include nearby zip-line tours, waterfall excursions, horseback riding, ATV adventures, and Crocodile tours. A little farther away with service in the area of Punta Leona are white-water rafting tours. These have transportation included to just south of Quepos.
Nature walking tours are available in the nearby Carara National Park, known for its large bird habitat and other wildlife. You can also book tours to Manuel Antonio National Park (about 1 hour and 45 minutes away), with one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and high density of wildlife.
If you are looking for relaxation, you can have a massage therapist come to your vacation rental to melt your stress away!
Nightlife, shopping, and dining are also close by. Jaco Beach is about 25 minutes away by car and is known for its vibrant night scene. It also has a large selection of restaurants, some with live music. Jaco Walk is a good place to start. Jaco is also known for its surfing, and you can learn, too, with available surf lessons! The ISA World Surfing Games were held here in 2009 and 2016. Jaco is becoming a hub for the art scene, too, as you will find many beautiful large murals around town.
You can also check out Los Sueños Marina. It is about 15 minutes from Punta Leona and has several restaurants and bars and a nice cafe. There you will see plenty of luxury yachts and sportfishing boats. You can buy a yacht there, too!
Speaking of sportfishing, the Central Pacific is well known for its world-class deep-sea and in-shore fishing. Marlin, Sailfish, Roosterfish, Tuna, Grouper, Mahi-mahi, and much more can be caught in these waters.
